Persona 5 is perhaps the best entry in the Persona franchise thus far, regardless of the naysayers who claim previous titles are superior. While Persona 5 certainly isn't perfect, it still takes the most direct and in-your-face attitude toward Japanese social ills by including politics and corrupt authority figures in its storytelling. Like other Persona entries before it, Persona 5 has great replay value and it's definitely worth a second playthrough after the ending credits finish rolling.

The game even incentivizes replays by having certain accomplishments and gear carry over into New Game Plus (abbreviated henceforth as NG+), including the progress players have made in their Persona Compendium. This means that players can snag powerful Personas right from the beginning of the game and they can work on fully completing the Compendium, something that's not possible on the first playthrough. It's worth it to take some time researching and fusing the best possible Personas to carry the protagonist through NG+.

10 Fafnir Is A Robust Persona That's Tough To Knock Down

fafnir from persona 5

Unfortunately, Fafnir is only available in Persona 5 Royal, but it's a beast of a Persona. It has no weaknesses and reflects both Gun and Physical damage, meaning it can only be knocked down by Technical damage or the Down Shot skill learned from the Tower Confidant skill tree.

Furthermore, Fafnir absorbs Fire and Nuke damage, and resists Elec damage. And to round everything off, Fafnir also learns Nuke skills that deal Severe damage. It's hard to bring down, but at least it can be obtained in the last Palace of the game.

9 Kohryu Has Useful Passive Skills For SP Management

kohryu from persona 5

If players treated Sojiro well during their first playthrough, then they'll have maxed out his Confidant rank, which is the only way players can summon Kohryu. It's one of two Personas that learn Life Aid, a passive skill that allows 8% HP and SP recovery after a victory. Another useful passive skill it learns is Spell Master, which halves SP cost for magic skills.

It also reflects Elec attacks and blocks Nuke and Bless damage. And in Persona 5 vanilla, Kohryu has the added bonus of being a powerful item if used during an Electric Chair execution: Sudarshana, a slingshot for Morgana that's got 308 ATK, 98 ACC, and adds a low chance to inflict a random ailment.

8 Ongyo-ki's Passive Skills Make It Amazing For Physical Damage

ongyo-ki from persona 5

Ongyo-ki is the ultimate Persona for the Hermit arcana, so players can only summon it if they've maxed out Futaba's Confidant rank. It reflects Bless and Curse damage and resists Physical damage, making it useful for tanking. But more importantly, Ongyo-ki has a passive skill build that makes it a Physical attack behemoth. Arms Master halves the HP cost of Physical skills and Regenerate 3 backs that up by regenerating 6% of max HP every turn in battle.

Furthermore, Firm Stance will halve all incoming damage at the cost of sacrificing evasion completely. This allows more HP to be used for Agneyastra, which deals medium Physical damage to all enemies one to three times.

7 Alice Has A Unique Insta-kill Curse Skill & A Passive Skill To Cheat Death

alice from persona 5

Only players who have maxed out the Death Confidant will be able to fuse Alice, meaning treating Confidants well during the first playthrough is essential. Survival Trick is a Passive skill that will allow the protagonist to revive with one HP after being taken down by an Insta-death attack, which is useful early on before his teammates learn Protect through their Confidant skill trees.

More exciting is the unique Die For Me! skill that can only be learned by Alice. She also gets Mudo Boost, giving Die For Me! even more potential to land. And in Persona 5 Royal, her trait Just Die reduces instant-death skill SP costs to 0, meaning Royal players can spam this move.

6 Maria's Distinctive Skill Set Will Keep The Party On Their Feet

maria from persona 5

Players who reach the True Ending will have a shot at fusing Maria, as she's the ultimate Persona for the Faith arcana. Unfortunately, this means she is exclusive to Persona 5 Royal, and players will need to max out Sumire's Confidant rank. Maria's Passive skill Holy Embrace gives 25% HP regeneration each turn in battle, and Holy Whisper allows 15% HP and SP regeneration each turn.

Moreover, Angelic Grace gives double evasion rates against all skills but Hama, Mudo, and Almighty, meaning the protagonist will have a better chance of surviving attacks. Finally, she learns Holy Benevolence, a modest 27 SP skill that will revive the entire party to full HP.

5 Siegfried Is A Good Attacker Without Being Too Overpowered

siegfried from persona 5

Some players aren't fond of breaking the game with overpowered tactics, so Siegfried is a good option for those types. He's got strong Physical attack capabilities without being too powerful, including Vorpal Blade, which deals Severe Physical damage to all enemies. He also blocks Physical damage and resists Ice damage.

He gets a notable boost in Royal, where he blocks both Physical and Elec damage and resists both Ice and Gun damage, making him decent for tanking. He also gets the added trait Retaliating Body, which doubles Counter damage. This trait goes great with the Auto skill High Counter, which has a 20% chance of reflecting a Physical attack.

4 Shiva's Got Robust Elemental Resistances That Make Him Pretty Durable

shiva from persona 5

Shiva is a special fusion Persona that requires Rangda and Barong, but he's worth getting. Out of the eleven possible types of damage in Persona 5, Shiva can negate or absorb five of them. He blocks Ice, Bless, and Curse damage, absorbs Psy damage, and reflects Elec damage.

Furthermore, he gets the Auto skill Enduring Soul, which will allow the protagonist to survive one fatal blow and heal him to full HP. He also learns Psycho Blast and Psycho Force, the strongest single target and multi-target Psy skills in the game.

3 Izanagi-no-Okami Is An Almighty Damage Dealing Beast

izanagi-no-okami from persona 5

This Persona is from a DLC pack and players will have to pay for it on Persona 5 vanilla, but the Persona 5 Legacy DLC for Persona 5 Royal gives this Persona out for free. Izanagi-no-Okami shines best in his ability to deal Almighty damage, the only type of damage that can't be resisted, blocked, or reflected.

Myriad Truths deals Heavy Almighty damage to all enemies three times. When coupled with the Passive skill Almighty Boost, which strengthens Almighty attacks by 25%, Izanagi-no-Okami is able to destroy many enemies in the game with little difficulty.

2 Yoshitsune's Signature Skill Obliterates Enemies

yoshitsune from persona 5

Players will have to be diligent to unlock Yoshitsune, as his fusion requirements are strict. Not only will the protagonist need to have at least rank 5 with the Twin Wardens, but they'll also need to have maxed out Morgana's Confidant in the previous game by unlocking the True Ending. This is because Futsunushi, the ultimate Persona for the Magician arcana, is part of Yoshitsune's fusion recipe.

Yoshitsune's selling point is the skill Hassou Tobi, which deals light Physical damage to all enemies eight times. He also blocks Physical damage, reflects Elec and Bless damage, and resists Fire damage.

1 Satanael Is The Ultimate Tank Who Can Only Be Fused In New Game Plus

satanael from persona 5

Players ordinarily need to be level 95 to fuse Satanael, but this can be bypassed once they max out the Strength Confidant. Several other Confidants also need to be maxed out, including Goro Akechi, so players will need to make sure they get the True Ending and treat him right. Satanael is the protagonist's ultimate Persona and resists Physical, Gun, Fire, Ice, Elec, Wind, Psy, and Nuclear damage. Furthermore, he blocks Bless damage and absorbs Curse damage.

Satanael is the only Persona to get the skill Victory Cry, which fully heals HP and SP after every victory. In Persona 5 vanilla, Unshaken Will gives immunity against all mental ailments but Royal replaced it with Tyrant's Mind, which strengthens all damage types dealt by 25%. Finally, Satanael is also the Persona that unlocks the protagonist's ultimate weapon, Paradise Lost. Satanael is truly the ultimate Persona for any player to use on their NG+.
